about

My work is inspired by everyday phenomena – light, shadows, reflections, space…. I explore elements of the ordinary that transcend into the extraordinary.. often there seems no satisfying explanations for these things, but for me, that adds to the sense of the phenomena – a state of wondering.

The hidden volume of a shadow; the displacement of space by an object; sunlight refracted into patterns or reflections – these quiet events are taking place around us everyday but are often unnoticed through their familiarity. I aim to provoke questions, doubts, and curiosity.

I enjoy the notion of the ‘uniqueness’ of a moment in time – the very essence of our experience of life. I am interested in how we perceive the intangible: light, shadow, space, depth, volume and division.  The transformation between two dimensions and three dimensions is, to me, an intriguing, in-between space. When does one become the other? Where are the boundaries, when there are no boundaries?

I experiment with found objects and materials, exploring their qualities – often using chance occurrences that blend elements of the known with the unknown.  Chance seems to me an intervention by nature and my acceptance creates a type of collaboration.  Duality also occurs in my work, contradictions which perversely seem to provide a sense of balance.
